St Jude Math-a-Thon and Tricky Tray

The St. Jude Math a Thon is underway! A big thanks to our 4th graders for visiting the K-5 classrooms to discuss why donating to St. Jude's is so important. We have about 1/2 of our permissions slips back, but hoping for participation from all the students in our class. Donations are due on Friday, March 11th. Tricky Tray - this year, our class is creating a 'Family Game Night' basket. I have donated a "checkers" set and a 3 pack of "Old Maid", "Hearts" and "Crazy 8's". So far, that's all we have. Hoping to receive some more donations to fill our basket. Examples are board games, card games, outdoor sports, etc. Thanks Mrs. Hayes (Ben's mom) for taking care of coordinating our basket this year. All donations are due by Thursday, March 31st.

Canal extra credit project

EXTRA CREDIT PROJECT
Due Friday, February 25th
You have watched videos and read about canals in New Jersey and around the world. Now it’s time for you to create your own canal. Are you up for the challenge?

Use your book and watch the videos from our blog site to review how canals work. Be creative – use any materials you want to create your canal – twigs, clay, play dough, building blocks, legos, etc. If you don’t want to make a 3D model, you can also make a drawing of how a canal works. Your family can help you, but the majority of the work should be done by you.

For your project, you should include at least:

One lower level
One upper level
A lock
A boat

Your project doesn’t need to use water to show how it works, but it should show how a lock works in a canal.

The number of points you can earn will depend on how well you are able to demonstrate how a canal works. You can earn up to 10 extra credit points. Remember – family members can help, but the MAJORITY of the work needs to be done by you.

Your project should be handed in by Friday, February 25th. We will have a class demonstration for anyone that brings in a canal.

for our troops

XEROX IS DOING SOMETHING REALLY NICE

If you go to this website, http://www.LetsSayThanks.com you can pick out a thank you card and Xerox will print it and it will be sent to a soldier that is currently serving in Iraq. You can't pick out who gets it, but it will go to a member of the armed services.

How AMAZING it would be if we could get everyone we know to send one!!! It's FREE and it only takes a second.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if the soldiers received a bunch of these? This takes just 10 seconds and it's a wonderful way to say thank you. Please take the time to pass it on for others to do. We can never say enough thank you's!

mitten sewing

I'm so proud of the wonderful job the students did sewing their big mittens today! The kids were able to sew on two buttons and they learned the whip stitch. Most students had time to learn how to thread a needle today as well.
A huge thanks to Dylan and Nicolette's grandmom, Eliza's mom, Ben's mom, and Thomas's mom for coming in and assisting the students. Thanks to all the 'at home' helpers and those of you that sent in supplies. Check out these mittens!
