Canal extra credit project
Due Friday, February 25th
You have watched videos and read about canals in New Jersey and around the world. Now it’s time for you to create your own canal. Are you up for the challenge?
Use your book and watch the videos from our blog site to review how canals work. Be creative – use any materials you want to create your canal – twigs, clay, play dough, building blocks, legos, etc. If you don’t want to make a 3D model, you can also make a drawing of how a canal works. Your family can help you, but the majority of the work should be done by you.
For your project, you should include at least:
One lower level
One upper level
A lock
A boat
Your project doesn’t need to use water to show how it works, but it should show how a lock works in a canal.
The number of points you can earn will depend on how well you are able to demonstrate how a canal works. You can earn up to 10 extra credit points. Remember – family members can help, but the MAJORITY of the work needs to be done by you.
Your project should be handed in by Friday, February 25th. We will have a class demonstration for anyone that brings in a canal.

for our troops
If you go to this website, http://www.LetsSayThanks.com you can pick out a thank you card and Xerox will print it and it will be sent to a soldier that is currently serving in Iraq. You can't pick out who gets it, but it will go to a member of the armed services.
How AMAZING it would be if we could get everyone we know to send one!!! It's FREE and it only takes a second.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if the soldiers received a bunch of these? This takes just 10 seconds and it's a wonderful way to say thank you. Please take the time to pass it on for others to do. We can never say enough thank you's!

December 13-17
Wednesday is the holiday concert - the students have been practicing their songs and are ready to perform! Students should arrive to school at 5:30 (no earlier), and come to the fourth grade classroom. Students should be dressed nicely and may wear Santa or Elf hats. The concert starts at 6pm. On Thursday, the students will be sewing a big holiday mitten in class. This has been a fourth grade tradition for 10 years now! Students will get to sew on a button and learn the whip stitch. The students will each bring 17 little items (due Friday) that I will 'stuff' into their mittens and they will bring home a mitten-full of little trinkets on Thursday, Dec. 23.
