Each year, my 4th grade class learns to sew on a button and practice the whip stitch while sewing a big mitten. Thanks to all who assisted, whether at home or in the classroom, to make our project a success!

door decorating contest
We had a holiday door decorating contest at OCS. I guided the students towards a CORRECT theme, "The Gift I can Give to Others", focusing on empathy. The kids all wrote about giving toys to children in need, cards to family members, etc... As a class, we decided that this writing would look great either as a gift tag on a present, or as the present itself.
When it came time to discuss how to decorate the door, the kids were in complete control. I told the class to decide how the rest of the door should look. They decided on a tree to put the presents under, with decorations they could each create. Somehow, it then turned into a "Star Wars meets Olaf" door!
We did not win the contest, however, I know we all had fun decorating!
